Kids Programs
The library offers a variety of programs for children and their families from birth through to grade eight at all four locations. Follow the links for descriptions and other information relating to these events.

Registration for the Winter 2019 programs will begin on Monday November 26th at 9:30AM.

Please note: Children must be the correct age for the program they are registering for at the start of the program.
Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult to the program room for drop-off and pick-up due to security concerns.

  • Art Adventurers: 5 - 8
    Bring out your inner artist with a new art project every month. Make Eric Carle-inspired animals and a cubist spring scene. Dig in and start making with your hands in mixed media! A new project every month so put your creativity hat on.
  • Chess Classes: Beginner: 6-12 years
    Learn to play or improve your chess game. Master the chess moves and learn the importance of each piece.
  • Chess Classes: Intermediate I: 6 - 12 years
    Learn to play or improve your chess game. Master the chess moves and learn the importance of each piece.
  • Chess Classes: Intermediate II and Advanced: 6-12 years
    Learn to play or improve your chess game. Master the chess moves and learn the importance of each piece.
  • Crafty Spring Fling: Family (Ages 7+)
    Gather the whole family together for an amazingly fun night of spring-themed crafts and home decorations. Everyone will have the ability to make an item to welcome spring from dahlia wreaths to sun catchers!
  • Create a Cardboard Kingdom: 6-10 years
    Construct and decorate your own 3-d castle using recycled materials. Complete your project with gardens, dragons, knights, wizards and more!
  • Diaper Derby: Crawlers (up to 16 months) with caregiver
    Does your baby crawl? How about faster than other babies? Let’s have the cutest race this library has ever seen. Enter your baby (crawling only) in our very first diaper derby and meet other parents and babies. No obligation to compete.
  • Discovery Lab: 4-5 years
    Once a month for 4 Saturdays children will have fun discovering and learning through a variety of fun activities.
    One program will be music, another art, another math and lastly science.
  • Earth Day Fun: 6-9 years
    Join us for some Earth Day fun! We will be planting seeds and creating our own trees from recycled materials.
  • Escape from the Death Star: Ages 13+ (10+ with adult supervision)
    The Rebel Alliance needs your help! In a teams of 4 to 6 with your family and friends, you will be challenged to steal information from the Death Star and escape in 45 minutes -- before Darth Vader discovers your presence.
  • Exploring Colours Together: Ages 3-5
    Come to the library for an hour of stories and sensory activities. Parents and children will explore together and learn about colours. Please wear clothing you can get messy in!
  • Flower Mobiles: Ages 6-8
    Come create a fantastic flower mobile that looks pretty hanging in a window or doorway.
  • Homework Help Buddies for Newcomers: Grade 4 - 8
    This program will match newcomer students in grades 4-8 with high school volunteers who will meet with them weekly to offer subject specific homework help and skill enriching activities
  • Lego Block Party: Ages 6 -12
    Meet new friends and build whatever your mind can conjure with the Library’s LEGO collection.
  • Meet Author Helaine Becker: Grades 3&4
    The Power of Poetry: Celebrate poetry with a fun and funny discussion from bestselling author of Ode to Underware, Juba This, Juba That, A Porcupine in a Pine Tree and Counting Katherine: How Katherine Johnson saved Apollo 13.
  • Mini Discoverers: Ages 5-7
    Discover something new and explore what the worlds of STEAM have to offer! Different topics each month.
  • Movie Madness: Family Program
    Looking for a great way to spend an afternoon? Join us for Movie Madness at the Library!

    On Sat. Feb. 16th we will be showing “Wreck-it Ralph”
    Please note that the start time of the movie will be 2:30pm on this date.

  • Musical Babies: Birth - 15 Months w/Adult
    Presented by EarlyON.
    This program encourages language and early literacy skills through the use of songs, nursery rhymes and musical experiences.
  • Pop Up MakerSpace for Kids: All Ages
    The Pop Up MakerSpace for Kids is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
    Drop in to see demos of 3D printing, coding activities, robotics, and other new and exciting emerging technologies.
    Be innovative, be creative, be a Maker!
  • Python Computer Programming - Intermediate: 10-13 years
    Students will learn to be more comfortable coding in Python while taking advantage of the language’s unique features. They will also learn about more advanced coding concepts such as objects and functions.
  • Reading Buddies: Grades 1 - 3
    Children meet weekly with a teen volunteer to read and play literacy games. This program offers children an accepting environment to practice their reading skills and make new friends. Discover how much fun reading can be!
  • Tween League - ART!: 9 - 13
    Unique artistic exploration. These once a month meetings each focus on a particular project for adventurous tweens who want to satisfy their curiosity while making new friends.
  • Tween League - SCIENCE!: 9 - 13
    Exceptional scientific challenges! These once a month meetings each focus on a particular project for adventurous tweens who want to satisfy their curiosity while making new friends.
  • Tweens Night - Poetry as Art: 10-13 years
    Create poems so beautiful that they are works of art. We explore woven poetry, black out poetry, paint chip poetry and magnetic poetry.
